Popular music during the 1920's was jazz, ragtime, and Broadway musicals. Jazz was widely played across the nation in speakeasies, dance halls, and road houses. At the beginning, jazz was considered devils music and then late became one the most popular genres in the nation. Some very popular jazz performers were Duke Ellington and Bessie Smith.
