In the 1920's, flappers were girls who wore short knee length dresses, make-up, long beads, long stockings, garters, and their hair short. Being dressed like a flapper was very popular and was representing of the young. Although the life of a flapper may seem glamorous, many of the girls who became one, also took on the disadvantages of their role models. Such as smoking, bad language, immorality, and selfishness. Junior League Magazine, said that long dresses were out of style. The magazine was trying to persuade the girls to wear shorter dresses and to dress as movie stars and other celebrities were dressing.
